Urban Maintenance in July 2013

Repairs

Over the past month we had several Street lights that were severely damaged, especially the one in front of The Wagon Burner in Buttskop Road.  Bollards are also one of our concerns! We have realised that people don’t understand the purpose of planting bollards, as many have been knocked over by large vehicles.   These measures have been installed to protect our infrastructure from being damaged by heavy vehicles.  The street lights have been and are constantly repaired and we trust that they will remain in good condition.  Please respect our assets, they are expensive and difficult to maintain and replace.  We would like the City to be spending money on new infrastructure within our area rather than on repairing damaged and vandalised infrastructure.

Landscaping on corner of Wimbledon and Buttskop Road

Over these past few weeks our cleansing and greening staff have been really busy upgrading the verge on the corner of Wimbledon and Buttskop Roads.  Many days of hard work were spent getting the whole area cleaned up and level in order to fill certain sections with stone and others with compost. At this point the major work has been completed and we are now busy planting foliage.

Verge Upgrades

The City of Cape Town is busy addressing infrastructure needs in Blackheath Industria by upgrading of sidewalks.  The Blackheath CID have prioritised this in our annual applications to Capital Budgets and the Integrated Development Plan for the City of Cape Town.  At this stage the implementation of the side walk alongside Wimbledon road is in its final stage and should be completed shortly.  With the new financial year and BCID budget the Blackheath CID is also looking at the upgrade of various verges at other intersections in our area.  More news to follow on this at a later stage though!
