Acacia xanthophloea (Fever Trees) being damaged

image018All alongside Wimbledon and Buttskop Road we have planted these beautiful trees, as we going into autumn we can see that our trees are showing its powdery greenish-yellow colour. Just Interesting fact about the Fever tree is that it’s one of very few trees where photosynthesis takes place in the bark, the bark of tree can also be used for medical purposes as treating fever and eye complaints.

Also state that certain culture groups use it for rituals.

The bark of trees is there to cover and protect the vascular cambium of most trees. Inner bark is produced by the vascular cambium, but the protective function of bark as a whole is augmented by cell divisions in the cork cambium.

Over this past two weeks we have come across that people are busy damaging our precious trees by cutting of the bark, at this point we cannot confirm what it’s been used for, but research has showed that there are a number of things that it could be used for.

We ask for your participation to please be on the lookout for anyone that’s trying to damage the trees, if you have any information please contact us on 021 905 0929
