Infrastructure, energy and the future of Blackheath
BCID is looking beyond today’s challenges to prepare Blackheath for future growth. Increasing rainfall, heavier traffic and ageing infrastructure are placing growing pressure on the area.
Strengthening infrastructure
BCID continues to advocate for improved stormwater infrastructure along Wimbledon and Range Roads, while the Buttskop rail crossing and Eerste River corridor remain important as traffic volumes increase.
Keeping business powered
Reliable electricity is essential to Blackheath businesses. BCID continues working with Eskom and local businesses to strengthen communication, improve infrastructure resilience and prepare for potential future load-shedding requirements.
Investing responsibly
R1.76 million retained in savings at year-end. BCID reported a R174,289 deficit, largely linked to major verge-upgrade investments, while maintaining no outstanding debt.
The focus remains on balancing today’s services with long-term investment in Blackheath.
What comes next?
BCID will continue investing in Blackheath, including the ongoing hard-surfacing of verges at intersections. This programme will require significant investment and will continue over several financial years.
The goal is to strengthen Blackheath as a preferred industrial and commercial destination — supporting businesses, attracting investment and creating a better environment for everyone.
