Over the last month we really have seen a lot of verge upgrades throughout the whole industrial area, levelling and hardening of the verge in Range Road, Rand Road being resurfaced and the widening of the corner of Artisan way and Wimbledon Road.

image012 Throughout the Industrial area we will see that contractors of Telkom have been installing fibre optic cables to enhance the Telkom internet lines in the area.  They have been busy for a few months now and we are aware that at certain intersections the sidewalks have been damaged. It was confirmed by the contractors that as soon as they finish laying cables they will repair and reinstate the damaged sidewalks and other surfaces.

Keeping it clean – January 2014

After a month of December Shut down with skeleton staff levels performing duty all staff are back on the road and doing their best to bring the industrial area back to a good standard. Throughout the holiday we had two staff on the road just to do litter picking and ensure that the area does not look too untidy

Over these two weeks we really got our hands dirty to collect all rubble, sweep roads, pull out weeds and we are currently busy mowing the verges where possible. The City of Cape Town does not mow verges and we are not a “garden service”, however we do attempt to assist local businesses in keeping the verges looking neat. Please remember that you need to take ownership of your verge and that upgrades lead to increased property values and potential investment in an area that looks “the part”. We are all in the business of upgrading our area together!!

The municipal camp in Helene Street became a spot where local businesses have decided to dump their rubble without considering the consequences and now we as the BCID cleansing team need to clean up the mess.

We ask that you do not dump anything in the camp as its not a dumping site. Law Enforcement and ST3 Security have been tasked to patrol in that area and will be issuing fines to offenders. Let’s please work together to keep our industrial area neat and to the benefit of everyone.

We are committed to making a difference, please take our hand and let’s do this together.

Security News for November 2013

Monthly Security Report – November 2013

Looking at the crime statistics we can clearly see that we are moving into festive season as petty crime is on the increase. The South African Police and ST3 Security statistics show that theft out of motor vehicle, common assault and general theft increased over this past month.

In the beginning of October we experienced a major carjacking in Anfield Road where a large amount of money was driven away with, the vehicle was discovered at a later stage on the R300. We would like to warn against handling, storing and transporting large amounts of cash at this time of year. Rather have the professionals move the cash and try to avoid cash handling as far as possible. The information quickly gets out and you will most likely find yourself in a very unpleasant situation. These thieves have no respect for your life and a major hunger for hard cash.

If you get between the two you are likely to suffer the consequences!!!

We have noticed that there is a group of five males roaming around the area looking for opportunities to steal any items of value. If you see them or anything suspicious please inform the SAPS or contact the BCID patrol vehicle. Call ST3 on 021 905 3399 immediately or 10111 for the SAPS!

Action Steps

Over-grown erwen with alien vegetation, especially Port Jacksons have been addressed in Warrior Crescent and also in Range Road opposite AJ Bricks.
The traffic department do random visits throughout the area and especially in Range, Trafford and Rand Road following complaints.

Level crossing camera enforcement switched on at Buttskop Road Level Crossing

“The tragic events of 25 December 2010 should never be forgotten, and must continue to serve as a reminder of the horror that reckless and irresponsible driving can inflict on those most vulnerable, namely passengers and pedestrians,” said Minister Carlisle.

“The initial CCTV level crossing camera enforcement project was the first of its kind in South Africa, targeted specifically at prosecuting level crossing offences. With this system, offenders will face stiff fines, starting at R500 for failure to stop before crossing the level crossing. They may also face arrest and charges of reckless and negligent driving, for example, if the booms are ignored. We have no doubt that the effects that this CCTV enforcement has had on White Road will also be felt at Buttskop, with drivers changing their behaviour and adhering to the rules of the road,” added Carlisle.

ST3 Security Update

image017Statistics show that crime has decreased, but there are also concerns that crime is not being reported.  The SAPS started their festive season operation and will be doing operations alongside the railway as we believe that a lot of the burglaries are coming from the railway side.  ST3 Security reported that crime alongside the railway has increased.

Reporting crime will only be to our benefit as the SAPS deploy their staff according to their crime statistics, currently the Blackheath area is rated as a low crime risk area.

The SAPS visibility has increased slightly and we believe that we will be seeing much more visible policing on the approach to the Christmas Shutdown Period.

Action Steps! Problems with regards to over grown trees alongside the railways and on properties will be addressed.

The traffic department is still doing regular checks in the area and we have tasked them do to constant VCP’s in Blackheath Industrial.
